It is about a way of life, about experiencing and exploring, and having a broader canvas of nature to learn from.
The outdoor ambience provides the essential space, openness, purity, intensity, and diversity that create the fundamental platform and enables being with oneself, reflecting, understanding, being aware of the various facets of life and self. In outdoors learning happens as naturally as it can and should. Because outdoors can offer one of the most effective, memorable and long – lasting learning experiences for self, teams and organisations.
An appropriate natural surrounding is soothing for the mind and body at the same time it evokes thought and action. And hence, for an effective outdoor intervention, its location should be wisely chosen. The place has to be in a natural setting rather than a crafted one and it needs to be clean, safe, spread out and should offer the right amount of challenge.

Facilitation

Experienced and Trained Behavioral Facilitators from High Places offer vivid observations and perceptions, raise relevant questions to reflect and uphold the boundaries of purpose and psychological safety.The facilitator is responsible to identify, recognize and highlight the emergent realities that help in correlating phenomena in personal and/or work realities. This helps to make meanings and possibly experiment with behaviour to create desirable change and achieve transference of learnings to the organisational and personal contexts.

Expected from an OMDP

Outdoor Management Development Programmes are about real people, real experiences and real consequences. The nature of the programmes can be open-ended and can address individual training needs. An individual is physically, mentally, emotionally and socially engaged in the programme. It helps overcoming personal fears, broadening horizons and making insightful connections. The ‘highs’ and ‘lows’ of the experiences through various activities and group review sessions facilitate learning. It offers a great opportunity to reflect, introspect, challenge, redefine and generate new meanings. The combination of challenge in a natural and unique ambience combined with reflection and a meaning making process helps in long-term retention of the learning.

Self

Self forms the integral part in all areas of exploration, be it Leadership, Team, or any other focus area. Because it is the self who is expected to finally create the desirable change either for the organization or the roles the person plays in personal or professional capacity. An OMDP planned for self-exploration, offers a vast canvas to identify and understand one’s behaviour and its patterns. It helps in building awareness, unlocking potential, identifying blocks and possibly deal with those blocks to bring in a change or make a shift.

Leadership

Leadership is a choice one makes and orients self to decide and drive purpose through effective management of resources and be responsible and accountable for the same. An OMDP helps explore Leadership in action, where the various facets like choice and decision-making, influencing, communicating, owning, delegating and many more can be experienced and explored. It helps understand one’s core behaviours that enable to lead and know the blocks that impede leading. It assists to realize one’s constructs of leadership phenomena and facilitates customizing behaviour so as to appreciate the leadership process along with its challenges.

Team

By its very nature of group working, an OMDP becomes an ideal platform to explore and develop teams. It is said ‘sharing and caring comes natural in outdoors’. Right from sharing space to engaging together in challenges, it creates an opportunity to experience self in a team context. It helps explore differences and commonalities, group dynamics, perceptions, connects and interfaces between team members. This provides a mirror to reflect and an opportunity to realign one’s behaviours for fruitful and enjoyable coexistence.

All interventions offered by High Places are customized and specifically designed to suite the requirements of the specific organization.High Places has also successfully integrated use of Outdoors with Specific Inventories and Tools like MBTI, CPI, BEI, FIRO – B, etc.
